___________________________________________________ Latest Newsletter - October 2007 Sponsorship Helen has been in discussion with The Rotary Club about the possibility of obtaining some funding. The Chairman of the Youth Opportunities Committee is very enthusiastic about what we are trying to achieve and dialogue is ongoing as to how they might be able to assist us. Youth music competition The Rotary Club has invited us to consider the submission of selected band members into a local competition, to take place at Magdalen College School in late January 2008. Individuals, duets and ensembles are eligible to enter and are required to play two pieces, each lasting about three minutes. The upper age limit is 17 years, so regrettably that does rule out an entry by the entire band! This could be fun (??!!) and gain some publicity for us, so if anyone feels it is something they might like to be involved in, please let me know. PERFORMANCES Rotary Club Christmas Do Still on the theme of the Rotary Club, we have been asked to play at their forthcoming Christmas Party at the Town Hall in Brackley, on Thursday 20 th December. As this is so close to Christmas, please can everyone advise me as soon as possible of their availability so that we can respond appropriately. 8 th December – Croughton Village Hall This night will essentially be a fund raiser for the band. We will perform in the first half of the evening and my rock/soul band, Feels Like Friday, will perform in the second half of the evening. It will be advertised locally and tickets are on sale to the general public, so if friends and family would like to purchase tickets and come along, they are most welcome. Tickets are priced £8 and include a jacket potato supper; people are advised to bring your own drinks. A small committee has been formed to organise the whole event; if you or your parents would be prepared to lend a hand on the day, please let Helen know. This can range from helping set up on the day, to providing a salad, nibbles or filling to accompany the spuds or dishing it up on the evening. BJO website Just a reminder of our website address: www.brackleyjazzorchestra.co.uk. It is hoped that this will be live any day now and a copy of the newsletters will be posted on there, amongst other things. Regards Steve |
